About Our Foundation
Advocating Change
My name is Mohamed Tejan Kamara, aka Opong, a native of Koidu town, Kono district.
I am the founder and CEO of "THE HEART OF GIVING CHILDREN'S FOUNDATION, "presently in the capital Freetown, Sierra Leone.
My drive towards this foundation is due to the trauma, disappointments, heartbreaks and suffering I went through in my early years, My mum was a petty trader, selling foodstuff to get the family forging ahead whilst my dad by then was physically ill and could not do much to upkeep the family financially. I was attending the Islamic primary School in koidu town by then, from class 1-7. In November 1992 , everything turned sour , the Revolutionary United Front (R.U.F) entered the district and killed so many people, looted and destroyed almost everything. On that faithful day, I was just back from school, few meters from my house we heard gun shots and people were running for their lives. My mum grabbed me since I was the youngest, started running with me and was bitterly crying. She took me where my dad 's corpse was lying, after being shot by the rebels. We could not bury our dad, we ran and God helped us to get a vehicle and we got to Makeni, the northern Province of Sierra Leone. That was at the age of 12 years. Together with my mum , I spent almost 5 years in Makeni and later left for the capital,Freetown with my mum. Due to lack of accommodation, my mum was advised to stay in the eastern part of Freetown and I went to the western area, Kroo Town Road, precisely.
Then the suffering , trauma, disappointment, shame, reproach, hunger, homelessness started and above all my mum passed away and I became an orphan. No one to turn to and ask for help .
God was there looking at me , preparing a way for me, I was sleeping in an unfinished or uncompleted building without a roof top. When it rains , I had to pack my cartoons and cardboard, because that was the only thing I had to sleep on, I will then find a place to wait until the rain stops. I suffered in such a way that words could not express that type of suffering. I was also falsely accused of stealing which I have never done in my life. My friend threw my things (belongings) from the top of the uncompleted building where I was sleeping and they drove me out . God was still watching and in a short while, He (God) vindicated me. The thief was caught, praise be to His mighty name. There was no food to eat, no place to sleep, no support from anywhere. I started to roam the streets of Freetown.
One faithful day, I came across a good Samaritan by the name Mr Arnold Kayila Fofana ,who saw me playing in one of these local(Area) leagues and took me to his house. Even there, accommodation was a problem.I had a place to keep my belongings but no place to sleep.i started sleeping in a wrecked vehicle that was parked in front of the house (a red Volvo car). Mr Fofana later introduced me to one of Sierra Leone's finest midfield maestro who was the then coach of the Old Edwardians FC, John Ajina Sesay .Then my door of success started opening. He,Ajina, invited me for training.I excelled and was included and registered to play in the first (1st) division league.
I played for a few seasons and then went to play for another club,Mighty Blackpool f.c,from there I was invited to play for the national team.I succeeded because I was so determined not to go back to that same old traumatic life.
I excelled in such a way that I was invited to the National team and later had an invitation to Cameroon.I went through the trials and had a contract with Cotton Sports of Cameroon.
In Cameroon, I was stopped by the former national team goalkeeper,Nkono Thomas who arranged for another trial with Fakel FC of Russia.I succeeded and also played for Dynamo FC. After a brief spell in Russia, I was invited to Cyprus. In Cyprus,I played with NEA SALAMINA FC in Larnaka for four years. That was when I had my breakthrough.I got married to my beautiful wife and we are happily living in Cyprus with our three beautiful daughters. My main purpose of doing this or opening this foundation is to help those children who are presently suffering like the way I did. A lot of them are homeless, traumatized, orphans, no support from anywhere, dropouts from schools like me,etc.
God has laid it in my heart by giving me this message."" I have blessed you to be a blessing to others.""
This taught me a lesson that no condition is permanent in life so therefore I deemed it fit to help those children through the little God has given me and the help of others.
I'm kindly appealing to all to please support these kids by subscribing to this foundation. These kids might be the future Stars and leaders of tomorrow,no one knows.
God bless you as you subscribe and promote these children.
